Data Safety Summary
Groundwaves, published by Offline Circuits · Last updated: 21 July 2026
This page summarises, in plain language, the data Groundwaves handles. It corresponds to the app's Data Safety declaration on Google Play. The full detail is in the Privacy Policy.
Groundwaves does not operate a server and does not transmit user data to any backend. Microphone audio, and camera video during a video call, are streamed live device-to-device and are not stored unless the user explicitly enables the optional recording feature, which stores audio locally on-device only. Approximate location is used only if the user enables the optional position-sharing feature, and is exchanged directly between devices in the user's local group, never transmitted to any server. Bluetooth device identifiers are used solely to establish local device pairing.
Data the app handles
Location
- Collected: yes — shared with third parties: no
- Purpose: app functionality — bearing and distance display between group members
- Processed ephemerally: yes. Location is used for the live session only; no location history is logged or stored
- Optional: yes. Position sharing can be turned off, and the app's voice features work without it
Audio
- Collected: yes — shared with third parties: no
- Purpose: app functionality — real-time voice transmission between group members
- Processed ephemerally: yes, for the live call path. Audio is not stored by default
- Exception: the optional, off-by-default recording feature stores audio locally on the recording device only. It is never transmitted off-device, and all connected participants are visibly notified while recording is active
Photos and videos
- Collected: yes — shared with third parties: no
- Purpose: app functionality — live video calls between group members
- Processed ephemerally: yes. Video frames are streamed live to the other devices in your group and are not stored by the app or sent to any server
- Optional: yes. The camera is used only during a video call; voice-only use never accesses it
Messages
- Collected: yes — shared with third parties: no
- Purpose: app functionality — short typed messages and quick-phrases sent to your local group
- Processed ephemerally: yes. Messages travel directly between devices in the group; no server receives, stores, or reads them
Device or other IDs
- Collected: yes — shared with third parties: no
- Purpose: app functionality — Bluetooth device identifiers used to establish the local pairing connection
- Processed ephemerally: yes
Data the app does not handle
Groundwaves does not collect personal information, financial information, health and fitness data, files and documents, calendar data, contacts, app activity, web browsing history, or app info and performance data. The app contains no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, and no crash-reporting service.
Data deletion
There is no remote copy of your data to delete, because none is ever sent off your device. Locally stored data — that is, any recordings you chose to make — can be deleted directly on your device, and uninstalling the app removes all locally stored app data.
User interaction and content
Groundwaves lets users communicate directly with each other: live voice, live video calls, typed messages, quick-phrases, and a local group alert broadcast. Users who enable position sharing also exchange their approximate location with the other members of their local group. All of this travels only between the devices in that group. Offline Circuits does not receive, moderate, or retain any of it, and there is no public or cross-group content.
The alert feature notifies your local group only. It does not contact emergency services. In a real emergency, use your phone's emergency call function.
